| Dana White Profiled in ESPN Magazine |

ESPN Magazine has a four-page article on Dana White in their May 18 edition. The article is based on a report shadowing Dana White in the days preceding Fight Night 14, when Anderson Silva stepped up to 205-lb to hand James Irvin his ass in the first round. There’s not really anything in the article that we don’t already know. White’s pre-UFC career and how it came to that the bald angry one was anointed as the savior of mixed martial arts is old hat, well worn material that any fan could recite. White has an especial affinity for the F-bomb, something we’re all aware of. That he likes to gamble, especially at one of Station Casinos owned by Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, the brothers who own 90 percent of the UFC, is known to even the most casual of fans. One thing that the surprised me happened when a security guard “joked” about writing a tell-all book. Dana not only blew a fuse, he became fixated on the concept - confessing a day later that he was considering firing the guy because his loyalty was now suspect. For the record, the guy wasn’t fired - but Dana does come off as more than a little paranoid. I’m just wondering why it took so long for ESPN to run this story - UFC Fight Night 14 took place in July of 2008. Maybe they were hard up for content. I mean, it’s not like we’re in the middle of the NBA playoffs or anything. |
